Immigration

Immigration Makes America Stronger

The story of America is, and always has been, a story of immigration. People from every corner of the world have come to this country in search of safety, opportunity, and freedom—and in doing so, they’ve built and sustained the very foundation of our economy, our communities, and our shared future.

But our current immigration system is broken—failing both immigrants and the country as a whole. It’s time for comprehensive reform that is grounded in dignity, fairness, and economic common sense.

The Economic Reality

Immigrants are not a burden to our economy—they’re a pillar of it.

  • Immigrants contribute over $2 trillion to the U.S. GDP each year.

  • In 2021, immigrant-led households paid $525 billion in taxes—including $249 billion in federal taxes and $139 billion in state and local taxes.

  • One in five entrepreneurs in the U.S. is an immigrant. In fact, immigrants are twice as likely to start a business as native-born Americans.

  • Immigrants make up more than one-third of all workers in vital industries like agriculture, construction, home healthcare, and food service.

Rather than being a drain on public resources, immigrants overwhelmingly contribute to the strength and sustainability of our economy.

What We Need

We must move beyond rhetoric and deliver real solutions:

  • Create a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who have lived, worked, and paid taxes in the U.S. for years.

  • Protect Dreamers and DACA recipients, many of whom have known no other home than the United States.

  • Streamline legal immigration pathways, reduce visa backlogs, and reunite families more quickly.

  • Provide humane, fair treatment for asylum seekers and refugees, ensuring that our border policies respect both national security and human rights.

  • Support immigrant integration with investments in education, workforce development, and language access programs.

A Moral and Economic Imperative

Fixing our immigration system is not just about doing what’s right—it’s about doing what’s smart. Immigrants are our neighbors, coworkers, caregivers, and small business owners. They’re vital to our economic growth, innovation, and cultural richness.

America’s strength has always come from its diversity. We are stronger, more dynamic, and more prosperous because of immigration—not in spite of it.

It’s time to reject fear-based politics and build a system that honors our values and recognizes the full contributions of immigrants to our shared future.
